Cold plunge benefits — real or placebo?

L

I've been doing 2-minute cold plunges at 50°F (10°C) every morning for 3 months. I feel amazing after each session, but I'm struggling to find solid evidence that it actually extends lifespan or improves biomarkers long-term. The dopamine and norepinephrine spikes are real but transient. Is cold exposure actually doing anything for longevity, or is it just an expensive way to feel alert?

Huberman oversold this. The actual studies on cold exposure and longevity in humans are basically nonexistent.

I think the stress resilience aspect is underrated. Hormesis is a real mechanism. But you don't need a $5k plunge — a cold shower works.

The brown fat activation is real and measurable. Whether that translates to longevity benefits is another question entirely.
