Olive oil quality matters — how to avoid fraud

K

Most "extra virgin" olive oil in supermarkets fails to meet EVOO standards when independently tested. Since olive oil is a cornerstone of longevity diets, we should be more careful about sourcing. I've been buying directly from single-estate producers with harvest dates and third-party lab results. Sharing my trusted sources and what to look for on labels.

The UC Davis olive oil study was eye-opening — 73% of imported olive oils labeled "extra virgin" failed to meet the standard. California producers were much better.

Look for a harvest date (not just a "best by" date), country of origin, and a dark bottle. If it's cheap, it's probably not real EVOO.

I switched to high-polyphenol EVOO and my LDL oxidation markers actually improved. The polyphenol content matters as much as the fat profile.
